6 reminders and practical steps that will help you overcome procrastination

It’s Monday- what have you been putting off doing for a long time? This week is the time to get them done!

Procrastination is a common challenge that we all face from time to time, whether it’s delaying a workout, making a phone call, or applying for a job. We all suffer through times of procrastination.

Do any of these examples resonate:

  • Are you delaying going to gym
  • Are you delaying calling your family or friends
  • Are you delaying applying for the new job?
  • Are you waiting for that moment when the time is right?

Personally I don’t believe it can be eliminated entirely but the good news is it can be managed and the first step is to be aware that you are delaying doing something. Once you recognise this behaviour you can something about it

To help you overcome procrastination, here are six simple and effective reminders:

  • Start now and don’t regret it a year from now.
  • Habits are more effective than targets.
  • Showing up every day is the key to success.
  • Take time to disconnect and recharge.
  • Fear of failure will hold you back – don’t let it.
  • Awareness is just the beginning of making a decision.

Remember that these reminders won’t necessarily give you a step-by-step plan, but they can help you break the cycle of procrastination and push past your fears. By staying mindful and taking action, you can achieve your goals and make progress in your personal and professional life.

If you are looking for actual steps to break procrastination, here are a few examples:

  1.  Start by setting clear and specific goals for yourself. When you have a clear understanding of what you need to achieve, it becomes easier to focus and avoid distractions. Plan the 5 key items you want to close out this week!
  2. Break down big tasks into smaller, more manageable ones. This can help you avoid feeling overwhelmed and make it easier to get started. Remember you build a house one brick at a time!
  3. Use a timer to help you stay focused. Set a timer for a specific amount of time, such as 25 minutes, and work on your task without any interruptions until the timer goes off. Then take a short break and repeat the process. (This is known as the Pomodoro technique and something I use a lot)
  4. Eliminate distractions by turning off notifications on your phone and computer, closing unnecessary tabs, and finding a quiet workspace.
  5. Hold yourself accountable by sharing your goals and progress with others. This can help you stay motivated and committed to completing your tasks. (Get an accountability buddy/coach)
  6. Finally, be kind to yourself. Don’t beat yourself up if you have a moment of procrastination. Instead, acknowledge it and then move forward with a positive attitude, focusing on what you can do to get back on track.

Feel free to share any other points that may work for you- always looking to improve my productivity.
